Learn how to propose an idea and turn it into action, to further the mission of the DAO.

Anyone in the DAO can propose new work or ideas as long as it is aligned with the overall DAO’s purpose or a specific circle’s purpose.

In proposing new ideas, the proposer should get ‘soft’ consensus and support, before putting in more effort and presenting to the community as a more formal proposal for adoption.

Not all proposals require voting and ratification by the community, but any proposal that requires funds from the DAO or affect in any material way how the DAO operates will need more formal proposal and voting to ensure it aligns with the DAO’s mission and is supported by the majority of members.

Current Proposal Process

Whilst we work towards full decentralisation and tokenized voting of proposals, formal strategic governance is managed through written proposals, proposed in discord, and voted on by the active discord community using a “fist-to-five” voting framework using discord reactions.

When soft consensus is reached (e.g. within a small group), members can make more formal written proposals to the entire community, and all community members are eligible to vote on the adoption of the proposal.

Currently proposals are written in clarity.so as a new note, tagged with #governance,  #governance-proposals and the relevant working groups it applies to.

Proposals should be written from the perspective of being read by someone without any context on what the proposal is about, thus they must include enough background and rationale, as well as a clear proposal and what action you would like community members to take, plus a section for capturing the vote results, tagged as #vote-result (see template as an example).

Community members will be given 72 hours to log their vote, and approval will be assumed if all active voters during the voting period log a 3 or more on the following scale:

✊ 'I completely object to this direction'

1️⃣ 'I strongly object to the proposal as written'

2️⃣ 'I have serious concerns that need to be heard'

3️⃣ 'I have concerns or improvements, but could probably live with it'

4️⃣ 'I support the proposal and think it can be approved'

5️⃣ 'I completely agree with the proposal as written'
